Amazon Planning To Move Into Wauwatosa JC Penney Warehouse

WAUWATOSA, WI — One company's oversized warehouse proved to be another company's treasure, as Amazon announced plans to occupy the former JC Penney distribution center in Wauwatosa.

According to a Milwaukee Business Journal report, Amazon would take up about 540,000 square feet of the roughly 2 million square foot campus.

Warehouse Closed in 2018

Citing an oversized supply chain network, JC Penney shuttered their distribution operation in Wauwatosa in 2018, resulting in the loss of about 670 local jobs.

The company also stated that they need to reduce the size of their supply chain network to match their number of national stores. That meant transferring operations in Wauwatosa to other facilities in Lenexa, Kansas and Columbus, Ohio.
