Drugs Drove Daughter to Steal from Family, Friends, Father Tells Police

A troubled young woman is the prime suspect in a jewelry theft after the stolen goods were found at her family home, according to police.

At 7:19 p.m. March 6, police were called to a home in the 2400 block of Swan Boulevard to take a report on a theft of more than $15,000 worth of jewelry from the resident.

Police also interviewed a neighbor who had found a Rolex watch belonging to the victim under the cushion of the couch where his daughter sleeps. He said she was a heroin addict and had stolen from him and other family members and recently had begun stealing from friends, neighbors and associates.

The 23-year-old suspect had stopped at the victim’s home earlier in the day, claiming she was locked out of her own home and needed to use a phone. The victim allowed her in and left her there alone for about 15 minutes, she said.

After the suspect’s father called her about finding the watch, she also discovered she was missing a diamond and platinum ring. The ring was also recovered at the suspect’s home.

The suspect, who had not been taken into custody as of the latest report, has a lengthy record of retail thefts and bail jumping, and open criminal cases for two felony counts of forgery and one felony count of theft. She was scheduled to appear in court Thursday on those charges.

Saturday

At 1:23 p.m., two Milwaukee girls, 13 and 14 years old, were arrested for theft from Sephora at Mayfair Mall after they were seen pocketing cosmetics. Each girl had an eyeliner and an eye shadow, together worth about $25.

A resident of the 7300 block of St. James Street reported that some time during the winter someone had entered her garage and stolen her 10-speed Raleigh bike, worth $200, and discarded an 18-speed Huffy bike behind the garage.

At 2:20 a.m., a 29-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, first offense, after she was stopped for speeding on Blue Mound Road. A patrol officer clocked her at 45 mph in the 30-mph zone in the 6700 block and followed. After seeing her drift out of her lane, he pulled her over at 76^th Street. She excused her behavior as the result of texting while driving. But the officer smelled alcohol and asked her to step out of the car and perform field sobriety tests. The driver had to lean against her car to maintain her balance, the officer said. She performed poorly on the tests, repeatedly losing her balance, and refused to give a breath sample. She was taken to Wisconsin Heart Hospital for a mandatory blood draw.
