Drunken Driving Suspects Spin Wheels and Tales

At 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a 41-year-old St. Charles, Mo., woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, first offense, after she passed out and drove her car into a snowbank at Denny’s, 11155 W. North Ave.

She was reported to be stuck there, unconscious at the wheel, with her wheels spinning.

It took some knocking on her window to wake her, and she appeared quite disoriented and incoherent, an officer said. She couldn’t turn off her engine when asked, pushing multiple buttons to no avail, and finally rolled her window down so the officer could reach in and turn off the ignition.

The woman repeatedly lost her balance attempting to perform sobriety tests and ultimately was unable to complete them.

She claimed she had had only one glass of wine with dinner and continued to insist, at the scene and even after booking at the station, that she had not been stuck in a snowbank, had never been unconscious and was perfectly able to drive.

She blew a .19 blood alcohol concentration on a breath test.

He just had a few beers... really

At 11:54 p.m. Wednesday, a 29-year-old Brookfield man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, first offense, after a patrol officer saw him stop and then go through a solid red light on 68^th Street at Blue Mound Road.

The officer followed him onto I-94, saw him swerving out of his lane, and pulled him over on the 84^th Street off-ramp.

The driver admitted drinking four beers much earlier with some friends, and he performed poorly on sobriety tests.

When asked again how much he’d been drinking, he again said he’d had four beers, but this time he said it was at Café Hollander, and the beers had all been, “like, 10 percent alcohol.”

When asked if he thought he was able to drive, he said, “Realistically, I would tell you guys flat out, no, I wasn’t.”

No, he wasn't. He blew a .15 BAC.
