WAUWATOSA, WI — Turkeys are prominent in Wauwatosa and are often seen camping out in the road by the Wauwatosa Village or intruding in residents' yards.

The City of Wauwatosa made a list of tips to manage urban turkeys and keep them from nesting in your yard.

Here Are Some Tips To Keep Turkeys At Bay

  • Don't feed turkeys.
  • Remove bird seed from the ground to eliminate an easy food source.
  • Collect fruits or nuts that fall from trees and dispose of them off of your property.
  • Use predator decoys, sticks and noise machines on fences. Move them around frequently to keep turkeys on edge.
  • Use nontoxic, biodegradable repellents such as methyl anthranilate on crops, gardens and lawns to keep turkeys from nesting in them. The taste will deter them without harm.

The City of Wauwatosa does not use turkey traps or other animal control devices, the city said in a statement. "We encourage residents to let wildlife, including turkeys, to coexist in our urban landscape," the city said.
