Here are four tips to avoid problems with wild animals and your garbage carts or dumpsters.

WAUWATOSA, WI — The Wauwatosa Health Department has posted four tips for avoiding problems with wild animals and garbage carts and dumpsters.
"To avoid problems with wild animals going into garbage carts or dumpsters keep the lids closed, especially at night," the health department said. "Be sure to keep all garbage carts at least three feet away from fences, trees and utility poles that animals could climb to get into the garbage."

- Open garbage cans and dumpsters can attract wild animals
- Keeping lids on dumpsters and garbage cans will keep animals out
- Products such as "Eco Defense Rodent Gone" can help prevent rodents from being attracted to garbage
- Keeping dumpsters at least three feet away from fences and walls can prevent animals from climbing into them
