Man Fled Wauwatosa Police At 100 MPH After Fight: Police

Authorities in Wauwatosa say a man fled officers following a fight with his girlfriend because he "didn't want to deal with the police."

WAUWATOSA, WI — A 19-year-old New Berlin man has been arrested and charged after he told police he led officers on a high-speed chase because he "didn't want to deal with the police" and because he was angry about a fight he recently had with his girlfriend.

Jaylin R. Thomas-Smith has been charged with two counts of fleeing an officer. He's due next in court on June 2 for a hearing.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, officers on patrol near N. 76th Street and W. Silver Spring Drive just after 2:30 a.m. on May 12 saw Thomas-Smith's car driving the wrong way on W. Silver Spring Drive.

Police said Thomas-Smith's car almost struck their squad and several other vehicles. According to police, officers chased Thomas-Smith's car for 16 miles. Officers said the chase lasted about three minutes until he fled into Wauwatosa.

According to the criminal complaint, Wauwatosa police officers picked up the chase near N. 72nd Street and W. North Ave. when they saw Thomas-Smith's car flee officers.

Police said Thomas-Smith sped west on W. North Ave. at more than 100 miles per hour. Police set up stop sticks, which deflated two of the tires on his car.

According to police, Thomas-Smith's vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 500 block of N. 106th Street, where he was arrested.
