Nordstrom Sues City Of Wauwatosa, Claims Tax Assessment Too High
Nordstrom claims that Wauwatosa imposed excessive real estate taxes on its Mayfair Mall store.

WAUWATOSA, WI — Retail chain Nordstrom sued the city of Wauwatosa alleging that the city imposed excessive real estate taxes on its Mayfair location.
The lawsuit was filed Aug. 27 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
The company argued that it is entitled to a refund of at least $261,803 from the 2021 taxes on its store at 2424 N. Mayfair Road, the lawsuit said. The company also seeks interest on the refund amount.

The city assessor set the property's tax assessment higher than that on other commercial properties around it, the lawsuit argued. The company also claimed that the city broke a rule in the taxation section of the Wisconsin Constitution.
Wauwatosa City Attorney Alan Kesner decined to comment on the lawsuit and said that the city was reviewing it.

Mayfair Mall earlier sued the city of Wauwatosa for $2.7 million, arguing that the city's tax assessment on the property was too high, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
