Second-, Third-Time OWI Offenders Arrested

Two drivers, one a Wauwatosa woman, were arrested this week as suspected drunken drivers, she for her second time and a Milwaukee man for his third.

According to police reports:

At 1:19 a.m. Thursday, a 34-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, third offense, after a patrol officer saw him run a red light and then clocked him at 60 miles per hour on Mayfair Road.

The officer pulled him over in the 2800 block. The driver smelled of alcohol, his speech was slow and slurred, and he admitted having had a few drinks with friends. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and agreed to give a voluntary blood sample.

However, at Wisconsin Heart Hospital, when it came time to take the sample, the suspect suddenly became uncooperative, refused to follow orders, began to struggle and eventually had to be taken to the floor. He had been convicted of operating while intoxicated in 2001 and 2005.

Under indefinite revocation, woman drives anyway

At 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, a 43-year-old Wauwatosa woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, second offense, after she was stopped for making a left turn from the Harmonee Bridge onto Menomonee River Parkway during the posted 3 to 6 p.m. “no left turn” period.

The driver said she knew she shouldn’t have turned, she appeared not to want to make eye contact with the officer, and her speech was slurred. She said she “going to Wauwatosa East… no, Wauwatosa West,” then said she was going home.

The officer asked if she'd been drinking, and the woman insisted she'd had just one mimosa after getting off work at a restaurant. Later, she admitted having two, but the officer was convinced she was impaired.

The woman performed poorly on sobriety tests and refused a breath test. She was taken to Wisconsin Heart Hospital for a mandatory blood draw.

She had been convicted of operating while intoxicated in 2005, and in February 2011 her driver’s license was indefinitely revoked as a non-compliant driver.

In other incidents:

A resident of the 6500 block of West Center Street reported Thursday that overnight someone stole her car, a 1997 BMW sedan, out of her driveway. She said the car had been locked and all keys for it were accounted for.

An Akron, Ohio, woman reported Monday that overnight, while she was staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 10499 Innovation Dr., someone smashed a window in her car and stole a bag containing a net-book computer and various personal items including jewelry, all together worth and estimated $1,535. She told officers that the computer and several flash drives that were in the bag contained medical patients’ information.
