Wauwatosa East Student In Custody For Weapon In Backpack: School

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon at Wauwatosa East High School.

WAUWATOSA, WI—A Wauwatosa East High School student was taken into custody on Wednesday after a weapon was found in their backpack, according to an email from Nick Hughes, principal.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The age of the student wasn't disclosed.

A group of students reported that a classmate had a weapon in their backpack, Hughes said.

Wauwatosa Police Department was called at 12:27 p.m, Hughes said.

Four officers removed the student from the classroom without incident, Hughes said.

The officers found the weapon in the student's backpack and determined it was an airsoft/BB gun, Hughes said.

"School-based discipline was issued immediately, and the student will not be allowed to return to school until a comprehensive investigation has been concluded. We are proud of the students who came forward to report this incident, and we continue to encourage all members of our school community to remain proactive and diligent in reporting any potential threats to school safety, Hughes said.
