Wisconsin Breaks Monday Record For New COVID-19 Cases: DHS

Monday's COVID-19 case count of 494 was higher than any other Monday, state officials said.

MILWAUKEE, WI — After a busy weekend in which Wisconsin's 24-hour COVID-19 case records were broken on consecutive days, health officials said case counts were down Monday — yet still managed to break a record of a different type.

That's because Monday's COVID-19 case count of 494 was higher than any other Monday, Wisconsin Department of Health Services officials said. There were no COVID-19-related deaths reported Monday, state officials said, marking the fifth time no deaths were reported over the last ten days.

According to DHS officials, 7.5 percent of Monday's test results came back positive for COVID-19. Over the last week, the state's positive test percentage is 6.7 percent.

Monday's 494 cases eclipsed July 6 when 484 cases were reported, making those dates the only two Mondays in which new case counts eclipsed 400 people to date.

According to the DHS, Saturday saw 926 new COVID-19 cases over a 24-hour period. Friday saw 845 new cases— each records at the time in Wisconsin. Sunday's count of 769 cases puts it third behind case counts on Saturday and Friday.

Though the number of positive cases reported each day has been trending up over recent days, the number of COVID-19-related fatalities has steadily declined. The 7-day rolling average was about 13 on April 10 and June 2. That number declined 3.43 as of Monday.
