Woman Killed After Intervening In Attempted Auto Theft: Police

WAUWATOSA, WI— Wauwatosa Police confirmed Thursday afternoon that a fatal hit-and-run and an attempted auto theft incident are related.

A 47-year-old woman was killed after she tried to intervene in the theft at the Holiday Inn located at 11111 W. North Avenue, police said.

She was struck by a dark-colored SUV and died at the scene, police said.

The SUV was seen speeding eastbound on West North Avenue around 1:50 a.m., police said.

Wauwatosa dispatchers received simultaneous calls about an attempted auto theft at the Holiday Inn located at 11111 W. North Avenue and about the pedestrian who was hit, police said.

"Public safety is a shared responsibility. This homicide was not a targeted act, but a random act of senseless violence. Auto thefts and reckless driving are plaguing the metropolitan Milwaukee area. It’s a problem affecting all community members and we need to come together to combat this issue. Each of us working together will produce a safe community for everyone," police said in a statement.
