2 College Wrestlers Brutally Attacked By Grizzly Bear In Wyoming

Wyoming Game & Fish believes that the men's encounter with the grizzly bear was "sudden" and a "surprise."

CODY, WYOMING – Two men suffered serious injuries after being ambushed by a grizzly bear while hunting south of Cody, Wyoming on Saturday, according to the Wyoming Game & Fish Department in a statement.

The victims were able to call 911 for assistance, the department said, adding that a group of people, including a fellow hunter, and a local helped them locate the search and rescue team on the trail.

"Special thanks to Park County Search and Rescue and the Park County Sheriff's office for their quick response and coordination of the rescue," said Dan Smith, Cody Region wildlife supervisor, in the statement.

Game and Fish is investigating the incident but believes that the men’s encounter with the grizzly bear was “sudden” and a “surprise.”

"Game and Fish will continue to monitor bear activity in the area and work with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to make management decisions in the best interest of public safety," Smith said.
