Here are the top three stories in Casper today:

  1. An I-25 crash closed the northbound travel lane after a truckload of limes spilled on Saturday. The accident happened between Casper and Midwest around 6:25 p.m. Highway Patrol estimated 30,000 pounds of limes were spilled across the roadway. The three occupants in the tractor-trailer were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the vehicle hit the guard rail and then landed in a ditch after the trailer detached from the tractor. Cleanup crews had the road reopened around midnight. (Oil City News)
  2. Casper Area Public Transit will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday. No services will be offered by the transit authority on Monday, May 29, including the ASSIST Door-to-Door service. The transit office will also be closed meaning riders who need to schedule rides on the ASSIST bus will need to make an advanced request on Friday or Saturday before 3 p.m. Regular service and the transit office will reopen on Tuesday, May 30. (Oil City News)
  3. Casper is gaining a new hockey team called The Roughnecks for the 2023-24 season. This team will fill the void left by the Coyotes who left the city back in 2019. The roughnecks were playing as the prospectors in Rock Springs but will now move to Casper to play against teams in Bellingham and Seattle, WA; Vernal, UT; and Medford, OR. The team coaches and the USPHL league hope that this will give hockey players in the region opportunities to play and be scouted for bigger leagues. (K2 Radio)
