Here are the top three stories today in Casper:
- The Casper City Council members have agreed to contract with the Low Income Home Water Assistance Program to assist low-income households with their water and wastewater bills. Although there are potential legal concerns with the contract language, other municipalities in Wyoming have found the program to be beneficial. The city is not currently a provider vendor, but if they become one, they can accept program funds for eligible clients — although there are uncertainties about the number of eligible citizens and potential risks of non-payment. (Oil City News)
- Casper is home to the newest hockey team, The Casper Roughnecks, a franchise in the USPHL Premier Conference; the team will join the Northwest Division for the 2023-24 season. The team replaces the former Rock Springs Prospectors, which was sold to the NCDC group and rebranded as the Rock Springs Grizzlies. The Roughnecks, owned by Danny Randall and his silent partners, aim to revive junior hockey in Casper and have received support from the community and local youth hockey organizations. (Oil City News)
- The Wyoming state record for a Longnose Sucker has been broken yet again. Last year the record was set by a local Casper man, Christopher Bobo for catching a Longnose Sucker over two pounds. This year's record by was broken by a Riverton man whose fish weighed in at over three pounds. (K2 Radio)
