Here are the top three stories today in Casper:
- The Rialto and America theaters have been listed for sale after being closed for some time. As new movie complexes come into Casper, these 1917 and 1921 entertainment theatres are being phased out as the theatres become less profitable for Movie Palace Inc. Two other downtown theatres, the Fox and the Iris, have faced a similar fate, one turning into a civic auditorium and the other now the new home of a brewery. The fate of the two buildings up for sale is unknown, but in the case of The Rialto, a non-compete clause of 25 years will make sure it does not stay a theatre. (Oil City News)
- A recent study found that, despite overall growth in the state, the city of Casper lost population between July 2021 and July 2022. Of the 30 largest cities and towns in the state, two-thirds of them gained population in that time frame — yet the two cities with the largest populations, Cheyenne and Casper actually lost population. The COVID-19 pandemic is thought to be a leading factor of the state's growth due to migration pattern changes with increasing opportunities to work from home and the desire to relocate to less populated areas. (Cap City News)
- What is that strange-looking helicopter in the sky? That helicopter seen in the skies near Casper has been outfitted by the U.S Geological Survey to map the Geology of an area just southwest of the city. The survey will give geologists a 3D map of the topography from South Pass in the Wind River Mountain Range, to the Granite Mountains. This survey will be ongoing until its completion in mid-September. (K2 Radio)

- Smoke from Canadian wildfires entered the state of Wyoming last night. A cold front pushing down from Canada brought smoke from several large fires with it. Visibility may be reduced and air quality will be severely impacted. (Oil City News)
- The annual Platte River Trails’ Spring Cleanup is on Jun. 3. The annual event helps to get Capspers trails ready for the summer and for events like the marathon. The Platte Rivers Trail Trust has also organized a corporate cleanup day on Jun. 2. (Oil City News)
