2nd Suspect Charged With Setting Fire To Infant’s Body: Report

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A second arrest has been made in connection with the death of a Birmingham infant whose body was set on fire after she died, according to law enforcement officials.

According to AL.com, Terry Dewayne Hinson Jr., 25, has been charged with abuse of a corpse. He was booked Wednesday night into the Jefferson County jail. He is the boyfriend of the infant's mother, Jasilyn Shebreit Hughes, 27.

Hughes is accused of placing the body of her infant child, who was about 4-months-old, in a diaper bag and setting it on fire April 1. The remains were left in an alley, court documents state.

Like her boyfriend, Hughes has also been charged with abuse of a corpse.

Both remain behind bars on a $250,000 bond.

Under Alabama law, a person commits the crime of abuse of a corpse if, except as otherwise authorized by law, he knowingly treats a human corpse in a way that would "outrage ordinary family sensibilities." Abuse of a corpse is a Class C felony.
