Local prices are significantly cheaper than a month and a year ago, and remain below recent years’ January averages. The report also compares Birmingham’s prices with Montgomery, Huntsville, and statewide and national trends.

• Former BSC chaplain to lead Trinity's new Hoover campus starting summer 2026 (al.com) — A former Birmingham-Southern College chaplain, the Rev. Jack Hinnen, is returning to the Birmingham area to lead Trinity United Methodist’s new Hoover campus starting summer 2026. Hinnen, who previously served churches in Hoover and West Homewood, will leave his Pensacola congregation in June and help Trinity relaunch ministry at the former Discovery United Methodist property near the Hoover Met.

• ‘Cutthroat Mafia' gang member sentenced on gun charge after shooting injured toddler, others (al.com) — Two shooting victims, including a 3-year-old boy, were airlifted to UAB Hospital and Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham after being wounded in an April 2024 gunfire incident in Anniston. A 25-year-old man has now been sentenced to over two years in federal prison for illegally possessing the converted machine gun used in the attack.
