ACIPCO's nearly $800M project in North Birmingham gets unanimous Jeffco Commission support (alabamanewscenter.com) — A nearly $800 million upgrade at ACIPCO’s North Birmingham plant is moving forward after unanimous support from the Jefferson County Commission, promising cleaner operations and about 80 high-wage jobs. County leaders say the long-term project will cut emissions by over 90%, strengthen local suppliers, and signal more major investments headed for Birmingham and Jefferson County.
   

2. ‘A new vision for Birmingham's future': Mayor Woodfin announces new transportation initiative (wbrc.com) — Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin has launched GoBHM, a 10‑month, community-driven plan to reshape how residents get around the city with more walking, biking, transit, and less car dependence. Partnering with the BJCTA, the city is gathering public input through questionnaires and events to guide future transportation policies, projects, and potentially even rail connections to Atlanta.
   

3. Birmingham, AL – 1 Trapped in Vehicle Crash at 1st Ave N & 85th St N (localaccidentreports.com) — Emergency crews in Birmingham responded early January 9 to a serious crash at 1st Ave N and 85th St N near the I-59 overpass, where one person was trapped in a vehicle. Portions of the area were closed during the rescue, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the wreck and how badly the victim was hurt.
   

4. ‘We fell in love with it': Matthew McConaughey praises Alabama city for people, politics (al.com) — Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey is giving Birmingham major love, praising its people, politics, and vibe after filming a crime thriller around the metro in 2023. He wrote a poem titled “Birmingham” in his new book, calls the city “on the way forward,” and fondly recalls visiting local spots from Children’s of Alabama to area restaurants and nearby communities.
