  1. Police are investigating a shooting investigation at Alabama Veterans Memorial Park in Birmingham. A victim was found at the park on Tuesday afternoon. As of Jun. 1, police have said the shooting is being investigated as a suicide; details are limited. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  2. Free meals will be available for kids in Birmingham this summer beginning Jun. 13. Through the Summer Food Service Program, lunch will be available on-site for students in Sensational Summer Learning from Jun. 13 to Jul. 8. Those not enrolled in the program can get meals at 41 school sites through Jun. 30. In addition, meals will be available in multiple public housing communities and at Martha Gaskins Elementary School from Jun. 13 through Jul. 22. (WBRC)
  3. Opera Birmingham is creating an innovative opera about Alabama's Helen Keller. According to an Opera Birmingham news release, the play, titled "Touch," will focus on Keller’s adult life and explores the relationship between Keller, Anne Sullivan Macy, her teacher and friend, John Macy (Anne’s husband), and Peter Fagan (Keller’s interpreter and lover). The two-act, 90-minute play will premiere in Birmingham in January 2024. (thehomewoodstar.com)
