Bessemer Train Depot To Undergo Renovation

The Southern Railway Terminal in Bessemer will be renovated to become a communal space for Bessemer residents.

BESSEMER, AL — One of the Birmingham-area's most iconic landmarks is about to get a major face lift. The Bessemer Train Depot, recently purchased by a local developer, is set to become a communal space for Bessemer residents, according to a report by BhamNow.

The property, built in 1917, was purchased by Brian Giattina, Blox CFO and founder of Bessemer Redevelopment Corps. Plans for the depot property include a community garden, facilities for art lessons and music classes and other uses for children and adults.

"From a geographic location, it’s very interesting," Giattina told BhamNow. "The site is next to the railroad tracks that have this historical perspective. It also has a high visibility from folks coming in via Carolina. Due to its proximity, it also has the ability to connect with the Bessemer History Center. It’s important to us that we are working together."
