- A Birmingham doctor is optimistic about a new trial that clears cancer cells. According to Dr. Stephen Beck, an oncologist at the Bruno Cancer Center at Ascension St. Vincent's, a new trial is offering hope to those with rectal cancer. Results reportedly show that cancer was eliminated for all 18 people in the trial using checkpoint inhibitor medicine. Beck, who was not part of the study, said the results are something he’s never seen before. (Alabama's News Leader)
- A Birmingham man says he was attacked by police while trying to help with a neighborhood shooting over the weekend. According to Birmingham neighborhood president Eldridge Knighton, Birmingham Police officers used unnecessary force and arrested him while he was trying to help them at the Morrell Todd Homes housing community in the Kingston area. Knighton, who may quit being neighborhood president, said that many residents saw the alleged incident; he worries it won’t help the “no snitch culture” in the community. (WBRC)
- A Birmingham native used his company to offer free photography services for graduating middle school students. Jarrell Jordan, CEO of Jarrell V. Jordan Company and a graduate of Woodlawn High School and Morehouse College, gave back to students by capturing images of ceremonies for schools that don't have a budget for photography. Thanks to the help of sponsors, Jordan was able to make memories for students graduating from four Birmingham City Schools. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
