Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- Over the next year, the Magic City can expect to see a big boost in tourism. With the USFL, The World Games, and Broadway tours all happening right here in Birmingham, the city is expecting thousands of visitors over the year. "With the investments we have made collectively, these are the benefits we starting see and are now starting to reap from those investments," said Councilman Hunter Williams. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
- A GoFundMe was launched after a 3-year-old boy was found slain alongside his paternal grandmother in southwest Birmingham. Just before 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, Desmond Burt Jr. and 62-year-old Cynthia Delane Burt were found slain at the Burt residence on Hillman Drive. The fundraising campaign has been set up to help lessen the financial burden of burial and memorial services for the family. Donations can be made here. (AL.com)
- The City of Birmingham wants to help fund your project ideas with federal relief money. The Magic City Recovery Pitch has roughly $80 million of the $141 million remaining in unallocated money from the Coronavirus State and Local Recovery Fund (SLFRF), which was awarded to respond to the public health emergency caused by the pandemic. Now, the city wants to use the remaining money to assist local organizations that help provide critical services, such as public health, housing, and educational disparities, to residents. Those interested can submit their information by Apr. 10. (WBRC)
