Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- A Birmingham startup is offering same-day delivery of CBD products and alcohol. Buzd is an app currently delivering in Birmingham and other nearby areas, in which users can create an order and have "late-night essentials" delivered in less than an hour. They are providing same-day delivery through a partnership with local bar Dave’s Pub and Near To Me Dispensary retail stores. (The Business Journals)
- A man won a case against the city of Birmingham over pothole damages, however, it is refusing to pay. Robert Walker sued the city after he was directed to use 69th Street North in Wahouma as an alternate route by police in the area in 2019 and hit a pothole that caused over $2,000 worth of damage to his vehicle. He argued his own case in two courts, winning both; however, the city refuses to pay. "When it comes down to potholes and other kinds of damages, City Hall will just stretch it out until you just walk away from it.. but I’m not going to walk away from it. They’re going to pay me,” Walker said. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
- The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama will provide 18,000 summer lunches and snacks through its summer program. The Summer Meals Program offers free meals to children ages 18 and under when school is not in session. The program lasts through Aug. 5 and takes place Monday through Friday at 13 sites across Jefferson County. (Alabama's News Leader)
