Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:
- More than twenty Birmingham area restaurants will be participating in the Dining Out for Life fundraiser this week. Many local restaurants will be teaming up with AIDS Alabama to bring awareness about HIV in our community, as well as raise funds for AIDS Alabama’s HIV services, prevention initiatives, and housing programs. - A Birmingham man who had recently been sentenced to life in prison for a 2019 shooting was found dead in his cell over the weekend. Sometime after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, 28-year-old Adam Jamal Isom was discovered in his cell at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office County Jail, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The JCSO is investigating the circumstances surrounding Isom’s death, and no other details have been released. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
- The University of Alabama at Birmingham broke ground on a new $78M science building on Monday morning. The new Altec/Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building will “accelerate advancements in precision medicine, informatics, and data sciences,” according to officials. The building will be located along 7th Avenue between 19th and 20th Streets. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
