- Calling all street performers: Downtown Birmingham is looking for entertainers to perform on the newly renovated 20th St N. Downtown BHM, an organization dedicated to revitalizing downtown Birmingham, posted an open call on their website for those looking to perform on Friday evenings from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. According to the organization, they are looking for acts that “can be performed on the street with minimal setup and production” including music, dance, and juggling. - A Birmingham urban farmer is helping to empower kids to have control over what they eat. 26-year-old instructor Fernando Colunga teaches at Jones Valley Teaching Farm, a nonprofit in Birmingham that teaches kids about food and farming. Colunga has been working at the teaching farm for five years and says it’s his mission to introduce kids to all kinds of fruits and vegetables — and not just because he likes cooking, but because he feels his work is helping to address the root cause of systemic issues in access to healthy foods, especially in Birmingham. - Over the weekend, three Birmingham men were killed in three separate shootings. The first shooting took place on Saturday afternoon in the Gate City public housing complex in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham and took the life of 43-year-old Morrion Hamilton.
