The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan enhances the federal child tax credit for one year. The Biden administration has said the credit aims to lift millions of children out of poverty.
The boost to the child tax credit will give eligible parents a total of $3,600 for each child under age 6, and $3,000 for each child under age 18 for 2021. Previously, the credit gave up to $2,000 per child under age 17. Pres. Biden has said he hopes the child tax credit becomes permanent.
