Here are the top three stories in Birmingham today:

  1. There is currently an ongoing investigation regarding a Gate City shooting that took place late Monday night. The incident took place in the 6900 block of 66th Street South, and when authorities showed up, an elderly woman was found injured with a gunshot wound. She was believed to be inside her home when a shootout occurred just outside, and due to the severity of her injuries, she was transported to receive medical care. Anyone with information about possible suspects or the incident is encouraged to contact the Birmingham police. (WBRC)
  2. Local Birmingham business, Cookie Fix, has been affected by the recent Jif peanut butter recall. Due to the findings of some recalled numbers in its inventory, lots of the store's popular products containing peanut butter will not be for sale until further notice. So far, no customers have reported any illness, but to be safe, the company advises anyone who has Cookie Fix products containing peanut butter to avoid consuming the product. Anyone with peanut butter products from Cookie Fix during the time of recall will be eligible to exchange or return them. (WBRC)
  3. A body was found close to Minor Community School on Monday afternoon, and police are currently investigating the case. Just after school let out, at about 3 p.m., a male body was found on the school track. Parents were notified via letter that the location of the body was near a popular route that many students take traveling home. Upon the discovery, teachers took the kids away from the scene and directed them away from the body. The investigation is ongoing and the cause of the man's death is yet to be determined.
