Meiko Locksley, Son Of Alabama Assistant Coach Mike Locksley, Killed In Shooting

The 25-year-old was killed in a shooting in Columbia, Maryland.

Meiko Anthony Locksley, the son of assistant coach Mike Locksley, was killed in a shooting in Columbia, Maryland Sunday night, according to local authorities. Nick Saban confirmed the news during his Monday press conference.

Meiko Locksley was pronounced dead overnight at the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, police said. (For updates on this story and more Birmingham news, subscribe to the Birmingham Patch.)

He was taken there after 10:20 p.m., when police said that officers responded to the 5500 block of Harpers Farm Road for a report of a man who had been shot. Several people said they heard one gunshot in the neighborhood; a resident found the victim outside and dialed 911, police said.

A motive and suspect have not been identified, police said Monday morning.

The elder Locksley coached at the University of Maryland before being hired by Alabama.
