Man Shot By Police After Vehicle Chase Dies

A Birmingham police officer shot the driver of a vehicle that led police on a chase in north Birmingham Sunday night.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A police chase in north Birmingham Sunday night ended with officers shooting the driver of the vehicle involved in the chase. The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Desmon Montez Ray, died at UAB Hospital Monday.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald of the Birmingham Police Department said North Precinct officers received a call about a domestic disturbance in a vehicle around 10:30 p.m. When officers located the vehicle, a police chase followed, and ended when the vehicle crashed into a fence in the 200 block of 9th Avenue West, Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald said Ray got out of the car and reportedly aimed a gun at police officers, prompting police to fire at him.
