Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:
- A Jefferson County deputy was injured in a motorcycle crash in the Ensley area of Birmingham over the weekend. The deputy was part of an escort for a funeral procession in Birmingham when the crash occurred. The name of the deputy was not released, however, the individual is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. (WVTM13 Birmingham)

- Authorities recaptured a local inmate who escaped over the weekend. On Sunday, Sharon Simmons reportedly left her assigned job location in Birmingham around 2:30 p.m. She is currently serving a 20-year sentence for third-degree burglary out of Tuscaloosa. Police did not state where she was found. (WBRC)
