Good morning Hoover. Here’s something special to check out today — especially if you’re looking to pamper yourself this Valentine’s Day! We asked Laura Silsbee, a Mountain Brook native and wellness expert, to help us find the best events and special offers for anyone wanting to look and feel their best this winter. Check out her Birmingham Patch Wellness Guide for February here.

Also, FYI: I wanted to let you know that Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Hoover Patch newsletter and make it their own. We want to pass the torch to someone truly local and in-the-know to write about Hoover long term. So if you’re interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. A suspect is in custody after a shooting broke out at an area Chuck E. Cheese on Sunday. Hoover police officers and Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the restaurant on Highway 280 at around 4:50 p.m. and found a man who was shot in the abdomen. Witnesses told investigators that the shooter and victim appeared to be relatives; police believe no other suspects are at large. The victim was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and no other injuries were reported. (WBRC)
  2. On Friday, the Hoover Public Library will host a nonprofit volunteer fair. During the fair, attendees can learn about local organizations and volunteer their time to give back to the community. The Kindness Summit will be hosted in the Fitzgerald, Shakespeare, and Theatre conference rooms from 1:00-5:00 p.m on Feb. 17. (Hoover Public Library)
