• Hanukkah menorah lit in Hoover with increased security (wvtm13.com) — A large crowd gathered at Hoover Public Library as Chabad of Alabama lit a public Hanukkah menorah with extra police security in place. Mayor Nick Derzis led the ceremony and lit the central candle while Rabbi Levi Weinbaum highlighted Hanukkah’s message of truth and resilience. Additional menorah lightings are planned through Monday, Dec. 22.

• Get to know: Bluff Park Art Association President Rachael Jamison (hooversun.com) — Bluff Park’s long-running art association, rooted just up the hill from Hoover, continues to shape local culture through its annual art show and year-round projects. President Rachael Jamison highlights how the group funds public art, supports schools and libraries, and awards scholarships specifically to promising Hoover art students, while inviting more volunteers to keep the tradition thriving.
• Madison joins online sales tax lawsuit against state (themadisonrecord.com) — Hoover is one of several Alabama cities already participating in a lawsuit challenging how the state handles online sales tax revenue, and now Madison has voted to join that effort. Madison officials argue the Simplified Sellers Use Tax diverts local dollars away from city services, while a split council weighed legal costs and regional relationships before approving the move.
