📰 News we're reading

1. Alabama receives $11.7M grant for mine reclamation, job creation (alreporter.com) — Hoover is set to receive two major AMLER grants totaling about $11.7 million for mine land cleanup and development, backing Stadium Trace Village Phase 2 and a new I-459 Exit 9 parkway extension. Expect new medical, hotel, retail and green space plus a bypass connecting Morgan Road, John Hawkins Parkway and Ross Bridge Parkway, easing traffic and supporting western Hoover growth.

2. Hoover school superintendent gets contract extension, raise (hooversun.com) — Hoover parents and taxpayers should know Superintendent Kevin Maddox just received a three-year contract extension and a raise to $275,000, keeping him in place through June 2029. School board members praised record academic performance, growing program offerings, and strong staff morale, while Maddox emphasized teamwork and a close partnership with the city as Hoover City Schools plans for future growth and new initiatives.

3. New Hoover city administrator shares ideas for Riverchase Galleria (wbrc.com) — Hoover’s new city administrator, Brian Muenger, is already focused on revitalizing the Riverchase Galleria and Patton Creek, where visits have dropped sharply and major renovations are being considered. Drawing on his growth and infrastructure experience in Pell City, he plans to work with mall owners and community groups on ideas like green spaces and flexible public areas to boost quality of life and commerce.

4. Madison joins online sales tax lawsuit against state (themadisonrecord.com) — Madison has voted to join a growing lawsuit challenging Alabama’s online sales tax system, arguing it diverts local dollars away from city services. Hoover is already part of this coalition of cities and school systems, so any changes to the Simplified Sellers Use Tax could eventually affect how much revenue flows back to Hoover’s budget.

5. Steelers add 1 former Alabama prep standout, waive another (al.com) — A former Hoover High School football star, linebacker Jeremiah Moon, is back on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ active roster after being signed off the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad. Moon, an All-State defensive end for Hoover in 2015, replaces another Alabama product, defensive tackle Brodric Martin-Rhodes, who was waived as Pittsburgh manages injuries at linebacker.
