  1. According to Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato, a proposed ordinance that would have allowed for the distribution of medical marijuana in the city of Hoover appears to be dead — for now. During Monday's Dec. 5 Hoover City Council meeting, a public hearing was scheduled on an ordinance that would have allowed medical marijuana dispensaries in industrial zones in Hoover; however, the ordinance was removed from the agenda. Brocato stated that the people who had expressed interest in operating medical marijuana dispensaries in the city no longer seemed interested due to their dissatisfaction with the locations that would have been available to them with industrial zoning. However, the Mayor believes it's likely the issue will come up again in the future. (Hoover Sun)
  2. A doctor in nearby Trussville is facing charges after authorities say he offered to a 17-year-old patient to be her “sugar daddy.” Initially, 59-year-old Hoover resident Dr. Janaki Earla was charged with first-degree human trafficking of a minor; now he is also charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, according to court records made public Wednesday. Earla previously worked at the Wellness Center as a doctor and is now held in the Blount County Jail. (al.com)
  3. The Hoover Police Department is hiring.
