  1. Over the holiday weekend, Southwest flight cancellations left many fliers frustrated at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport. Now, the cancellations have led to an investigation by the Department of Transportation. Across the country, thousands of flights were canceled during one of the busiest travel times of the year — and Southwest was responsible for most of them. According to a spokesperson for the airport, Southwest canceled 10 departing flights from Birmingham on Tuesday, as well as a similar number of arriving flights. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
  2. A local mattress company is closing after more than 107 years in the Birmingham metro. The Ensley Fairfield Mattress Co., which spanned three generations of Holtzclaw family ownership, will close its final retail store in Alabama. The company has been operating out of nearby Pelham and has employed hundreds of workers over the years. (AL.com)
  3. On Feb. 7, the Hoover Public Library will be hosting a Pizza with the Author event with Derrick Barnes. During the event, participants can join for pizza and activity, and meet the award-winning author of Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut and I Am Every Good Thing.
