Here are the top three stories in Hoover today:

  1. The City of Hoover is partnering with FEMA to implement a Flood Mitigation Assistance program for homeowners impacted by heavy flash floods in October 2021. Funds from the program will support property mitigation efforts for the more than 300 homeowners who reported damage following the floods, with some homes qualifying for a complete property buy-out. Homeowners who would like to be considered for participation must apply with the city before Oct. 7. (WBRC)
  2. The Hoover Police Department is seeking the public's help identifying three suspects in a felony shoplifting case. The suspects, who are wanted for questioning regarding the theft of nearly $700 in merchandise, were captured on store surveillance cameras. Anyone who recognizes the men pictured at the link is asked to call Detective Chambless at 205-444-7632 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. (ABC 3340 News)
  3. A football player with Hoover roots made an eye-popping reception for the Pittsburgh Steelers during their game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night. Former Hoover High School student George Pickens is now a rookie wide receiver for the NFL team, which lost to the Browns in a 17-29 matchup this week. Pickens earned All-State recognition at Hoover High in 2017 and 2018 before going on to play at the University of Georgia. (AL.com)
