  1. This school year, Hoover City Schools and the local police department sent a statement regarding the district’s updated safety protocols to parents in light of the ubiquity of school shootings, but many parents feel the statement was vague. Joshua Flores, a father of a third grader in the district and a preschooler, said it’s hard not to feel like a sitting duck — just waiting for a shooting to happen at his kids’ schools. Green Valley Elementary School had its first lockdown drill of the school year last week. The drill includes students and teachers locking the doors, turning off the lights, and staying quiet and out of sight. Some teachers even stacked naptime cots in front of their doors as barricades. 2. Hoover's Lamarion McCammon scored a touchdown with 76 seconds left in the game, leading the school to victory. Hoover won 20-14 over rival Vestavia Hills on Thursday at Hoover Met. They are now 2-0 in Class 7A, Region 1 play with a trip to Hewitt-Trussville set for next week. (AL.com)
  3. Camp Bow Wow, a pet care facility, will be opening a location in Hoover come 2023. The facilities will offer boarding, daycare, dog walking, grooming, in-home pet care, and training. All Certified Camp Counselors are extensively trained in dog behavior, pet first aid, and CPR. Each Camper must pass a socialization interview, be spayed or neutered, and have current vaccinations.
