  1. According to the Forbes Magazine list of best companies to work for, Southern Company, an energy business, takes the lead in Alabama. Among others on the list from AL were Hoover City School District, Clayton Homes, Honda Motor, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Employees were asked to evaluate working conditions, salary, potential for development, diversity, and other criteria. (AL.com)
  2. Pickle lovers only need to travel just outside of Hoover to taste pickle-flavored treats! Nearby Birmingham takes on pickle-themed foods to provide refreshment during the heat this summer. Hi-Wire Brewing features a pickle beer, The Filling Station has a fried dill appetizer, Harvest Roots takes on a pickle board, Alabama Peanut Company has ghost pepper pickle peanuts, MELT puts a spin on fried pickles with their jalapeno ranch, and NOLA Ice + Broad St Peaux Boys sells a dill pickle sno-ball.   3. Hoover residents will see a new Baskin-Robbins coming to town on Sep. 9 near Wing Stop and Smoothie King on Highway 31. The Grand Opening on Sep. 16 will feature a ribbon cutting, giveaways, music, and 31-cent ice cream scoops from 12:00-4:00 p.m. This location will be the third in Alabama, though it is the only stand-alone in the Birmingham metro area.
