  1. Are you looking to make a difference in your community? Hoover Helps is one of 17 organizations that are working to prevent food insecurity across Alabama. In Hoover, 500 children have been identified as food insecure — it's likely many others have not been identified. 2. On Monday, the Hoover City Council agreed to borrow $2.56 million to pay for two new fire trucks. The council had previously agreed to buy the trucks — a new ladder truck and a new pumper truck — earlier this month. The city’s chief financial officer, Tina Bolt, believed it would be better to borrow the money than pay the total amount in cash upfront, despite some council members questioning the move. 3. On Jan. 22, the City of Hoover will be hosting its first Community Mental Health Day. During the event, residents can access free mental health consults, free health screenings, and more. The event will take place at The Finley Center from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you or someone you know can provide service during this important event, please contact Reggie Parker at reggie.parker@hooveralabama.gov or (205) 739-7448.
