- The 2023 Hoover City Dad Brigade showed up in force on Saturday, Jul. 29 to get school grounds ready for students. There were 200-300 volunteers who spread out pine straw, trimmed trees, pulled weeds, and pressure-washed concrete. Volunteers were stationed at different school campuses and spent several hours completing projects. First-time volunteer Antoine Ash said that the volunteer day was an opportunity to contribute to the community, and he wanted to pitch in and do his part. (Hoover Sun)
- Hoover students return to classrooms on Aug. 10, and they will find some new faces in leadership positions along with some updates to school grounds. At least 10 Hoover schools have new assistant principals for the upcoming school year, and Hoover High School has a new principal. Two high schools will also have new athletic directors. Schools in Hoover also saw some upgrades over the summer months, including a new HVAC system at Gwin Elementary School and a new cosmetology and barbering classroom at Riverchase Career Connection Center. (Hoover Sun)
- The Hoover Police Department announced that it received national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in November 2022. To receive accreditation, agencies must comply with standards regarding policy and procedures, operations, administration, and support services. The Hoover Police Department is among 13 Alabama departments to receive CALEA accreditation. The department is inviting public comments on its service or other topics relevant to accreditation.
