  1. Peyton Argent, a football kicker at Hoover High School, announced his commitment to South Carolina on Monday. Argent will join the Gamecocks as a preferred walk-on next season. The kicker's impressive résumé includes a senior year where he made 34 of 35 extra points and eight out of nine field goals. (247Sports)
  2. The Jefferson County Commission approved recent promotions/appointments on the commission. Daren Lanier, previously the chief director of the revenue department, has been promoted to deputy county manager of human and community services. Malinda Parker, who has over 25 years of experience in government operations, was appointed the county's finance director. Scott Moore, who has 33 years of experience in the county, was promoted to revenue director for the county. (Hoover Sun)
