Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:

  1. A Hoover Police Department officer was shot on Sunday. The incident occurred at The Hills of Hoover apartment complex off Lorna Road. The suspect accused of shooting the officer was taken into custody around 3:41 p.m. The department has not released the identity of the suspect or of the officer. (WBRC)
  2. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating a shooting that resulted in a Jefferson County man being injured on Saturday morning. According to the agency, the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. when the Homewood Police Department shot a man carrying a gun. The department had received a call that James Logan, 71 years old, was acting suspiciously. (CBS42)
  3. Ascension St. Vincent's broke ground on a new freestanding emergency department on Thursday. The facility will be in Trussville but it will be servicing residents throughout Jefferson County, according to Jefferson County commissioner Joe Knight. The facility will feature an onsite lab, a helipad, and 12 treatment rooms. (1819 News)
