- A Hoover principal has been nationally recognized for her work promoting STEM education. Ricky Ridge Elementary School Principal Dilhani Uswatte has been selected to serve on the National Assessment Governing Board. The prestigious board oversees the National Assessment of Education Progress. (AL.com)
- The Jefferson County Coroner's Office is asking for the community's help in locating the families of four individuals that have died recently. The individuals are listed as Michael Wayne Hicks, John George Brooks, Danny Neil Slider, and Bonnie Marie Elder. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. - Jefferson County's Coroner Bill Yates reports that Xylazine is the cause of 39 deaths in the county this year. The drug is a sedative and pain reliever approved for veterinary use in large animals. It is commonly referred to as a "horse tranquilizer." It is just as fatal as opioids but is unresponsive to emergency reversal treatments. (1819 News)
