  1. Hoover students have demonstrated higher-than-average growth in reading and math test scores in statewide and national testing. Significant growth has occurred over the last three years. The Hoover school system was recognized on four different national 'Top 10' lists for districts with significant learning gains for disadvantaged students. Despite the recent success, the district is working to identify areas for future improvement. (Hoover Sun)
  2. Alabama health officials are warning Hoover residents about an alarming increase in flu cases. So far, there have been three flu-related deaths in Alabama this flu season. One of those deaths was a child. Hoover residents are encouraged to get a flu vaccine as soon as possible. Click for flu information. (CBS 42)
  3. A Tarrant City councilman has been booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Councilman Tommy Bryant was arrested earlier this week for punching Tarrant's mayor in the City Hall parking lot. He was arrested again on Thursday on a theft of services charge for refusing to pay for his vehicle when picking it up from a county towing company. (AL.com)
