HOOVER, AL — Hoover's Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday netted more than 70 pounds of unused or expired prescription drugs. The Hoover Police Department filled six boxes by the time the event concluded.

"Once again, you did your part in helping to make this community a safer place," the Hoover Police Department said in a release. "What might seem as a simple act of ridding your medicine cabinet of unwanted/unneeded drugs is actually the cornerstone of an invaluable substance abuse and crime prevention initiative. Prescription drugs often end up in the wrong hands, fueling an epidemic of opioid overdoses and deaths."
