  1. Former U.S. Navy Seal and football player at the University of Alabama, Mike White will be the keynote speaker at Hoover's 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony this year. The ceremony is one way the city remembers the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City and Washington D.C., and it will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Galleria food court on Sep. 9. Following the keynote will be the "Climb to Remember" event at 3000 Riverchase Office Tower, in the offices, where participants will climb the building's stairs until they walk an equivalent of 110 flights, equal to the amount that were in the twin towers. 2. Governor Kay Ivey announced a few Interstate 65 construction projects during a conference in Hoover, including the $500 million project budget. The largest project involves widening I-65 from Alabaster to Calera from two lanes each way to three lanes, and the second largest project is creating an interchange to connect I-459 to Highway 150 and South Shades Crest Road in Hoover. The last project is widening a portion of I-59 from I-459 to Chalkville Mountain Road. (usnews.com)
  3. Late Hoover school superintendent, Robert Bumpus is remembered by many as a humble leader who brought healing to the school system during a rough period. Bumpus started his educational career in 1959 as a teacher, principal, director of middle and elementary schools, and director of instruction. He was a godly and respectful man, a good delegator, and brought out the best in people, according to his former coworkers. (Hoover Sun)
