- The Hoover Public Library is seeking nonprofits to sign up for its second Kindness Summit. The event connects residents in the community with volunteer opportunities and resources. The summit is planned for Friday, Feb. 17. (Hoover Sun)
- The Birmingham Islamic Society in Hoover began donating 800 pounds of halal chicken every month to Blazer Kitchen earlier this year. Blazer Kitchen provides food to employees and students at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. About 150 of the 750 students and around 25 staff members receive halal chicken through the kitchen. - The Downtown YMCA in nearby Birmingham is closing its doors this weekend after serving the community for 100 years. YMCA Greater Birmingham officials cited declining attendance and a change in the downtown workforce as reasons for the closure of the facility. (BirminghamWatch)

- Meet Rip, one of your local Hoover K-9s. Rip is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois who was born in 2020 in Croatia. He started working in the community with this partner Sgt. Golson in November 2021 after they completed training together. (Hoover (AL) Police Department via Facebook)
- The nearby city of Homewood is changing up their ambulance service for the new year to help improve the current long wait times. The city is contracting with a different third-party vendor called Lifeguard Ambulance Service, which is based in Homewood. Lifeguard is currently hiring in preparation to start its services.
