Man Faces Multiple Charges In Hoover Domestic Violence Case

Hoover police say a Birmingham man broke into his estranged wife's apartment Saturday and assaulted her.

HOOVER, AL — A Birmingham man faces multiple charges in a domestic violence case in Hoover Saturday. Byron Eugene Capers, 27, was arrested after a physical altercation with police, and is now in custody at Jefferson County Jail.

Police say Capers broke into his estranged wife's apartment at the Hills at Hoover early Saturday morning.

"As officers were responding to the scene, the male entered the apartment and began assaulting the female and another man inside," Capt. Keith Czeskleba said. "The male victim fled the apartment and told arriving officers that the suspect was inside the apartment, armed with a pistol."

Officers say they located Capers in the parking lot attempting to force the female victim into his vehicle. Police say Capers began fighting with officers as they tried to arrest him, injuring both himself and the arresting officers.

Both the male and female victims also received minor injuries when they were assaulted, Czeskleba said.

The investigation revealed that the suspect sexually assaulted the female victim at gunpoint prior to forcing her to leave the apartment with him, police said.

Capers has been charged with assault, kidnapping, stalking, sexual torture, carrying a weapon without a permit, resisting arrest and domestic violence. His bonds total $1,009,000.
