  1. Mayors from the ten biggest cities in Alabama joined forces on Monday to support Amendment 1, known as "Aniah's Law." The amendment will be on the ballot for Alabama voters during the Nov. 8 elections. If ratified, Aniah's Law would give judges the power to deny bail to anyone charged with a Class A Felony. The amendment is named in honor of Aniah Blanchard, a student at Southern Union Community College. She was kidnapped and killed in 2019. The man charged with her murder was out on bail at the time for charges including attempted murder, robbery, and attempted kidnapping. (Alabama Political Reporter)
  2. Alabama students showed an impressive improvement in their National Assessment of Educational Progress, commonly referred to as the NAEP test. The state jumped ten spots up the list in math and reading. Most of the boost comes from fourth and eighth graders, who had a banner year in terms of academic excellence. The state is now just five points away from meeting the national average in math. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
  3. If you've always been curious about rock climbing, there's a great spot in Hoover that just reopened to let you explore this popular hobby.
