Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- A number of Alabama agencies are offering financial help to cover home heating bills. Jefferson County residents will qualify for the assistance based on income. Applicants will need to provide social security cards, photo ID, proof of income, and a current utility bill to the Northeast Community Action Agency. Click for application details. (ABC3340)
- The Hoover City Council has chosen Mike Shaw's replacement. Khristi Driver, 47 years old, will be the new council member. Shaw was elected to the state legislature on Nov. 8 which forced him to resign from his council post. Click for a list of city board appointments that were also announced during the recent meeting. - A man convicted of murder on Friday failed to turn himself into the Jefferson County Jail on Monday. He was given permission to attend his brother's funeral over the weekend. Nicholas Miranda, 29 years old, was convicted for fatally shooting Tommy Brown, 49 years old, on Jul. 30, 2020. He was out on bond pending last week's trial. (AL.com)
